Beginning with the conception and connotation, analyses the difference and relationship between building energy efficiency and energy consumption based on existing knowledge. Indicates that energy efficiency is suitable for evaluation in the design phase, while energy consumption for the operation phase, and that the influence of operation and usage mode should be considered when performing evaluation. By comparing the status quo of building energy consumption at home and abroad, points out that the future development of building energy conservation in China should be different from developed countries for the restriction of energy and environment. Considers China’s building energy conservation route from the aspects of energy consumption and energy efficiency.
